CLEAR Handpiece Protection Plan

A trusted, detail oriented member of your team should be assigned responsibility for handpiece maintenance.

Keep the maintenance area free from liquids, sprays, and solvents not designated for use on handpieces.

Spray lubricants and lubricant dropper bottles should be clearly marked.

Clean, Lubricate, Expell, Autoclave, & Remove.

1.  Clean exterior with alcohol and a good, strong bristle tooth
brush following each use, and prior to autoclave.

Don't be afraid to scrub. The key is to remove residue to
ensure it does not get baked on by the heat of the autoclave.
Don't use solvents, Lysol type sprays, or abrasives.

2.  Lubricate per manufacturers instruction. If you are not sure
how to lubricate the handpiece, email us for detailed
     instructions.

Use Concierge for any handpiece related questions.

3.  Expell excess lubricant and debris by placing handpiece
back on unit and running for 30 seconds or more. We are
really not watching a clock here. Flush times will vary.
Do not run handpiece without a bur in place.

4.  Autoclave handpiece using approved autoclave bag. Every
attempt should be made to prevent exposing handpiece to
heat for more than the minimum required time as suggested
by Center for Disease Control (CDC).

See also: Autoclave Use for more information.

5.  Remove handpiece from autoclave ASAP and allow to cool.
Do not attempt to cool using running water.

When handpiece is cool, place it back in rotation. No additional lubrication should be necessary, as modern lubricants hold up well to the autoclave cycle.

If you are that trusted, detail oriented team member assigned by the doctor to perform the above tasks, use Concierge for questions or comments.

We'll make you the office expert.
