Midwest handpieces have long been considered the workhorses of the American dentist. Experienced dentists appreciate the consistent torque delivered by the ever present Midwest Quiet Air highspeed handpiece, unchanged for many years. The Midwest Shorty (modern version of the Tru-torq) is the only turbine/drive ring powered slowspeed handpiece, and delivers more torque than any slowspeed we know of. If versatility is what you seek, then look no further, but be prepared for sticker shock, new ones will set you back $800. They can be found on Ebay for much less.

The Midwest Tradition highspeed handpiece has a standard size head (smaller than the Quiet Air) but still retains the torque Midwest is famous for. If you are willing to tweak the air pressure up just a bit (45 psig), the Tradition will cut like a chainsaw through pine.
Note: (psi) is short for pounds per square inch. The (g) is for gage, meaning pressure read on a gage not subject to the 14.7 psi we all get from the atmosphere. Some gages have (kPa) which is kilo Pascals. An easy conversion would be 1 psi = 7 kPa. Also worth noting, pressure will be a little less at the handpiece than at the control unit. Pressure drops about .5 psig for 
every foot of hose between unit and handpiece connector.
Remember, higher pressures may result in more frequent turbine replacements.
